Reiki is a healing modality attributed to Dr. Mikao Usui. There as several versions of Dr. Usui's story, however the basic story is that Dr. Usui was born in the mid nineteenth century in Japan.
Some versions of the story of Dr. Usui say that he was a principal of the Doshesha University, a Christian school in Kyoto Japan and in this version it was students inquiring how Jesus was able to heal the sick that inspired him to start his quest. Other versions tell of him seeking the healing energy based on his knowledge of the Buddha. He wondered if it would be possible to acquire the ability to heal physical illness in the same way as the Buddha, Jesus and others had done. There is a Tibetan Buddhist healing energy called the Medicine Buddha which involves the laying on of hands similar to Reiki and Jesus the Christ. Medicine Buddha healing is transmitted to the student through an empowerment (an Attunement in Reiki) given by the teacher. Pondering this question for some time, his conclusion was that if this kind of healing was possible in the past, then it must still be possible. With this though in mind, he set out on a quest to learn the secret of healing so that he might help others. After traveling throughout Japan studying at Buddhist temples and asking questions it is thought that he discovered a formula for contacting a higher power that could bestow healing. Eventually, Dr. Usui was led retreat to a mountain top for mediation where he subsequently received an empowerment in which he attained the Reiki information.
Regardless of the path Dr. Usui took, his Healing Tao brings us the Usui Shiki Ryoho healing modality. This is the Reiki system I offer to the student who seeks teaching in Reiki.
My goal is to allow for an affordable path to becoming a Reiki practitioner. In the not too distant past becoming a Reiki Master could cost $10,000 or more. Today the cost has been greatly reduced due to healers coming to believe it is important to spread Reiki to the growing population of holistic minded people. The purpose of my becoming a Reiki Master and teacher is to offer Reiki to all who seek the Healing Tao.
